The Perfect Fit
Helping you find the right cleaning service, even if it's not us
We're probably not the best fit if you...
- Have a very simple, repetitive, high-frequency job you want done for the absolute lowest cost, and nothing else matters. A large service with hourly workers or a freelancer working under the table is your best bet.
- You want help with no hassle or communication, you expect a cleaner who knows what clean means and delivers that according to your expectation. We're good at a lot of things, but reading neurotypical minds is not our strong suit. Try google, craigslist, or a forum for an option that satisfy you.
- You have a large commercial job that requires a large team, or involves hazardous materials. We have some specific recommendations in the Madison area for these services.
We're a good fit for people who...
- Want to avoid potential discrimination or judgment, or just feel embarrassed about hiring cleaners. The most common feedback we get from clients is, "I love how you know we're filthy, but somehow I never feel judged." We don't see you as filthy, we see you as a human deserving of respect and consideration, and nothing will ever change that. We also think you're cool, and eventually become friends with some clients (that's entirely up to you).
- Are dealing with grief, depression, illness, an overwhelming time with work/family, or any tough situation. If the idea of trying to have a casual conversation with a stranger about something that's just a job to them, but deeply painful to you seems impossible, we've got you. You can cry, pace, laugh hysterically, or cope however you can. We've had struggles too, so we won't be bothered or surprised, just do our best to listen and make your life easier.
- Have too much clutter to get value from a traditional cleaning service. Generally, they will clean around areas cluttered with a few objects but not move anything, and not even touch rooms with significant clutter.
- Need specific or complex rules to be followed carefully, without risk of miscommunication. If you have pet birds or amphibians, one inadvertant aerosol spray can be deadly. If you have trauma or sensory needs, an accidental boundary violation can ruin your whole week. We understand this, always clean your home ourselves, and we live in the same coop. The risk of errors due to communication failure is greatly reduced, and Sonya has the fanatical attention to detail common among AuDHD folks... especially when safety is involved.
- Have unusual or potentially objectionable items or hobbies, and worry that might be a problem if you hire a maid service. We're 420/kink/art-friendly, and generally enjoy cleaning unusual homes. We ask that you let us know if you're recording us or have unsecured firearms we might encounter, but our only strict hard limit is child/animal abuse.
- Care about where your money goes, and that workers are treated well. Our labor supports ourselves, not someone who owns the company but doesn't work. We offer the advantages of hiring a freelance cleaner, but our business is run entirely legally and we have insurance to protect your property. Your money supports local disabled people and gives us time to participate in self-care, activism, and community service. Our equipment is built by workers who are fairly compensated with adequate benefits, we buy local as much as possible, and do not source anything from Amazon.
- Want a cleaning service that prioritizes environmental sustainability. Sustainability is one of our core values, and we work to minimize our carbon footprint and use reusable materials with minimal packaging. You can read more about our supplies; if you need a larger service with a commitment to eco-friendly cleaning, try >True Hippie Cleaning Co
- Seek help learning how to clean more regularly and easily, not just have someone take over. We can help you get back on track with a reset cleaning when needed, as well as offer support and resources, even help with assigning homework or cleaning together. We'll be honored and proud if someday you don't need our help anymore.
- Know you can clean yourself, just struggle with execution. You can schedule short visits where we only handle the tasks you hate the most. Meanwhile, take advantage of the motivation/adrenaline rush from having someone come over, use our energy to get you kickstarted, or ask for advice or accountability. This can be an affordable and fun middle ground between hiring help and doing it alone.
Still not sure?
If you just can't decide whether we'd be a good fit, try reaching out to us and we can figure it out together. You can schedule a short cleaning to try it out and see how it goes, or Sonya can come over for a consultation and talk about your needs and answer questions. She'll even bring chocolate if you're nervous and chocolate would help.
